This specimen was one of four found on a slide that cost about $2. It is identified as "feathers" and "fowl point". No clue is given as to what bird it came from.

Feathers serve many different purposes. They serve the protection, insulation and decorative functions that hairs perform in mammals and they also allow birds to fly. It was once believed that feathers developed from reptilian scales specifically for the purpose of flight but it is now believed by many scientists that flight feathers are actually specialized versions of structures which were originally meant for more general purposes.
