The Hydra is a genus in phylum Cnidaria and the class Hydrozoa. Hydras have 1 to 12 tentacles at the head end which act much like similar tentacles in other predatory animals. These snake like tentacles and their regenerative abilities gave it the name hydra, after the mythical snake headed creature.
