The magnification figures given refer to the optical magnification seen through the microscope eyepiece.
This has nothing to do with the size of images on the computer screen, which depends on a lot of factors.
Some images, particularly of whole insects, are produced with a flatbed scanner and the magnification
factor is unknown, but most are done at a resolution of 600 dpi. Other images, as noted, are video caps
produced with a small security type video camera mounted on the C mount of a trinocular microscope. In
such cases the magnification is partly due to the optics of the camera and the figures are approximate.
